Analyst Expresses Concern About 1 Top QB Prospect’s Accuracy

It’s nitpicking season, and there is plenty to evaluate given the number of top quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft class.

The top three or four picks in this draft could all be quarterbacks, and one analyst is concerned about one of the top prospect’s accuracy.

Brett Whitefield of Fantasy Points went on The Fantasy Feast Podcast and discussed UNC’s Drake Maye, saying “the throw for throw accuracy just wasn’t there” and added that he’s “really inconsistent” and has a “wonky base.”

Whitefield added that these are issues that popped up more last season and are all things that can be cleaned up, but that pointing these things out is all part of the pre-draft process.

He also said that when he projects players to the next level, he wants them to be “a little bit cleaner mechanically.”

Maye’s production took a step back in 2023, as his accuracy dropped from 66.2 percent to 63.3 and his interceptions increased from seven to nine despite playing in two fewer games than in 2022.

Maye’s most common draft projection has been No. 3 to the New England Patriots and he often gets compared to Josh Allen, who also had accuracy issues in college that were fixed in the NFL.

Accuracy is not always the trait that translates to the NFL, as plenty of quarterbacks have been accurate in college and inaccurate in the NFL, and vice versa.

Maye was projected as the No. 2 pick for a while, and that could still happen, but the draft process has pushed Jayden Daniels ahead of him according to most reports.

We’ll see if his accuracy is enough of a concern to scare teams next Thursday.
