Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers were delighted by the way their team turned things around in the second half of the season this year.
They were once one of the worst teams in the league.
But they ended up fighting hard and making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
The future looked bright for them.
However, analyst Craig Carton doesn’t think next season will build upon the latest one.
Speaking on his show, Carton painted a grim picture for the Lakers:
“Sorry to break the news to you, you are not winning the NBA Championship next year. You are not winning your 18th championship for the franchise. You will be in full-out rebuilding mode twelve months from right now.”

Carton said the Lakers are going to experience trouble in the new season due to the same thing we have seen many times: LeBron James will get hurt, Anthony Davis won’t remain consistent, and the team will have to rely on supporting stars to lead them.
The host said that the Lakers are about to overpay Austin Reaves but he won’t be enough to lead the team without both James and Davis.
The Lakers are lacking a superstar, according to Carton.
They need someone who can pick up the slack when James is gone – and when he retires in a few years.
It is no secret that LA typically suffers when James isn’t on the court.
That is even more true when James is out and Davis is going through a rough patch.
But the team’s roster has become much more impressive over the last few months.
Certain stars, such as Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Lonnie Walker, and others are young and finding more rhythm, chemistry, and on-court wisdom.
In other words, this isn’t the same team we saw last year.
They are not immediately doomed if they lose James, Davis, or both.
Lakers fans should be cautious about James, Davis, their health, and their performances.
But they should also be a bit more optimistic than they were before.
