Kevin Durant’s NBA legacy is rather complicated.

Whether the fans like him as a person or not, no one can deny that he’s one of the greatest and most talented players on Earth.

Durant is perhaps the best pure scorer this game has ever seen, and while he doesn’t get enough credit for that, he’s also a very good defensive player.

Nonetheless, people will forever put asterisks next to his résumé, as if the fact that he played for the Golden State Warriors made him any less of an NBA champion.

With that in mind, ESPN analyst Clinton Yates argued that Durant might be the first player whose legacy will be all about him and not about the team he played for.

Talking on the UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio show, Yates explained that people often think of a great player’s team when thinking about that player, like with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, and that’s simply not the case with Durant.

He believes the fans are bitter at him because of the old-school idea of spending your entire career with a team, whereas Durant always did what was best for him as a player, which is perfectly fine.

It’s kind of sad to see that a player of Durant’s caliber might retire without a single fan base actively claiming him or rooting for him.

At the end of the day, playing basketball is his job, and wouldn’t everybody leave their current workplace if they thought it was the right move for them?
