San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk demanded a trade this week as he enters the final year of his contract and wants to be paid like an elite wideout.
He and the team reached an impasse with no foreseeable breakthrough on the horizon, so what will the Super Bowl contenders do?
Just because a trade is demanded doesn’t mean that one will be forthcoming since Aiyuk signed his deal and the team wants his services.
NFL financial analyst Andrew Brandt flatly stated on the Business of Sports podcast that he does not believe Aiyuk’s playing days with the 49ers are over.
Brandt said, “My sense is that nothing is going to happen.”

He declared he did not anticipate that the team would redo Aiyuk’s contract or cave into his trade demand.
After all, the 49ers invested a first round draft selection in a wide receiver in April and has Aiyuk under contract for one more season.
Brandt believes San Francisco holds value with the year remaining in the deal and will not give that up to facilitate a trade.
The question for the team is what they would receive in return for Aiyuk and if they are willing to step up and meet the exploding wide receiver market currently in the NFL.
The analyst noted that former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers wanted a trade in 2021 but did not leave the team until the following year.
As Brandt observed, “Players can’t trade themselves.”
At least in the opinion of one NFL expert, Aiyuk should hold off on plans to relocate before the new season begins.
