For the first time in his career, Klay Thompson won’t play for the Golden State Warriors.
This decision was a long time coming, although the fans still held out hope that he would come back.
A recent report even stated that Thompson’s camp reached out to the Warriors with a two-year, $40 million offer to try and make amends, but the Warriors simply weren’t interested.
Now, despite having an interest from his hometown Los Angeles Lakers, he chose to join the Dallas Mavericks instead.
Talking about that, ESPN insider Zach Lowe revealed that his relationship with the Warriors was, if not fractured, strained to the point of no return (via Get Up).

Apparently, Thompson resented the fact that the Warriors hadn’t negotiated a new deal with him despite doing that with almost everybody else around him.
He felt disrespected and undervalued, which eventually led to his exit.
As for joining the Lakers, Lowe claimed that the pressure of being the guy whom LeBron James took a pay cut for was just too much, not to mention the fact that the Lakers are always tangled up in some sort of controversy.
Per Lowe, Thompson chose to truly start fresh, which is why he decided to pack his bags and leave for Texas to team up with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
The Warriors announced that they would retire Thompson’s jersey, as they should.
Still, it’s a shame to see such a successful partnership end on bad terms, but this is a cruel business.
