Kenny Pickett’s rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers was a tumultuous ride.
After the team selected him in the draft as the heir-apparent to Ben Roethlisberger, there were high expectations for Pickett to succeed immediately.
He played well enough to cause optimism for the upcoming season, which will hopefully yield greater results for the Steelers.
Peter Schrager recently gave his expectations for Pickett in 2023 during a segment of ‘Good Morning Football.’
“I just can’t believe the rest of the league let the Steelers get a franchise QB at 20th overall,” Schrager said.
“I look at how Kenny Pickett finished the season last year- 5-0 in his last 5 starts- & I just can’t believe the rest of the league let the Steelers get a franchise QB at 20th overall. Although he didn’t win it, Pickett was nominated for the Heisman Trophy award in his final collegiate season.
He showed poise in the pocket, an ability to take off on the run, and as a whole, showed promise as a prospect.
Schrager believes that 2023 could be the year for Pickett to realize his potential.
“Don’t get it twisted, the Steelers have a guy,” Schrager exclaimed.
Having a solid starter at quarterback is essential in today’s NFL.
The league has transformed into a pass-centric league, putting a greater emphasis on quarterbacks.
The quarterback position has changed along with this, as they are expected to not only pass efficiently but have a solid run game as well.
If Pickett can put everything together this season, there’s no telling what his ceiling might be.
