The Phoenix Suns didn’t need much time to think about making a big splash as soon as Mat Ishbia took the reins of the team.
They pulled the trigger to pair Kevin Durant with Devin Booker, and their championship odds got a significant boost.
That’s the kind of impact that a player like Durant can have on any team, even those who aren’t as strong.
Nonetheless, recent history has shown us that, as great a player as he is, his best years might be in the rearview mirror already.
That’s why renowned analyst Jason McIntyre left him off his list of the top-10 players in today’s NBA (via The Herd).
For his list, he chose Joel Embiid, LeBron James, Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic from 10-1, in that order.
“Kevin Durant is a Top 20 player in the history of basketball, but right now he’s not a Top 10 player in the league.”

McIntyre claimed that both things could coexist: Durant is a top-20 player in NBA history, but he’s not a top-10 player right now.
He also questioned Durant’s and his camp’s approach to constantly engaging in back and forth on social media to fight and clap back at every single person who criticizes him.
But more than that, he wondered why he thought it would be a good idea to leave the Golden State Warriors when he was right on the top of the world, pointing out that he’s won a grand total of two playoff series without Stephen Curry.
Durant is now playing for his fourth team and they might not have as big a chance to win a ring as others.
Still, even if he’s no longer the player he used to be, he’s still one of the best to lace them up.
