The Chicago Bears are in an interesting spot in regards to the direction of their franchise as they need to decide what they’re going to do about Justin Fields going forward.

Fields has been up and down throughout the 2023 NFL season, but he’s shown flashes of being the kind of quarterback that a team can count on for the future.

Chicago came incredibly close to beating the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 as a last-second heave into the end zone narrowly ended up in a touchdown.

However, Darnell Mooney was unable to hold onto the loose ball and the Browns would pick off the pass and seal the game.

Effort wasn’t an issue for Chicago who played Cleveland tough throughout the afternoon, especially Montez Sweat who continues to wreak havoc on the edge.

Mina Kines of ESPN was impressed with Sweat’s performance and believes the deal he signed with the Bears continues to look great via her personal Twitter account.

“Man the Montez Sweat trade + extension looks better and better every week,” Kimes tweeted.

Shortly after getting traded from the Washington Commanders, Sweat agreed to a four-year, $98 million extension with Chicago.

Some thought the Bears would be better off holding onto their draft capital in order to continue their rebuild, but the front office identified Sweat as a key piece for their defense going forward.

Against Cleveland, Sweat racked up seven total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and three hits on Joe Flacco.

That kind of production off the edge is what made Sweat such an attractive piece at the deadline and he looks like a staple for the defense.
