The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t here to mess around.

Earlier on Monday, they got Paul George signed to a max, four-year contract that will give him roughly $53 million per year.

That was the kind of financial incentive it took to get him back to the Eastern Conference and away from sunny California.

And now that they’ve got him to the City of Brotherly Love, former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress believes this deal officially puts them ahead of the New York Knicks.

Talking on The Carton Show, the former star wide receiver shared his thoughts about how this deal made them better than the team that beat them in the first round of the playoffs, at least on paper.

“This trade for the Philadelphia 76ers makes them better than the New York Knicks.”

Of course, we’ve seen multiple teams — including the Los Angeles Clippers — be a contender on paper, but it’s a whole different thing when they hit the court.

Nick Nurse is a very good coach, and Joel Embiid is one of the best three players in the game, so there’s no reason to think the Sixers won’t be a major threat going forward.

Nevertheless, being available is also a huge part of the job, and that has been a major issue for both George and Embiid in years past.

They’ve missed a combined 243 games in the past five years, and Embiid missed a big chunk of last season.

Still, if they manage to stay healthy, don’t be shocked if they finally make it to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in Embiid’s career.
