For the last few weeks, fans of the Miami Heat have been downright giddy at the prospect of landing Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard.

Reports say that the Heat are going to make a strong run at Lillard in the offseason.

And some of Lillard’s recent actions suggest he might be willing to finally say goodbye to his home and team in Oregon.

But can the Heat really convince the Blazers to send them their star player?

Tim Hardaway Sr. doesn’t think so because he feels the Heat won’t trade away the necessary players to get Lillard.

“The Miami Heat are not going to get Damian Lillard,” Hardaway said on Monday’s episode of The Carton Show.

In order for the Blazers to even contemplate such a massive trade, they would want a lot in return.

They would essentially demand that the Heat dismantle their starting lineup for Lillard.

The Heat, of course, don’t want to do that because they want to add Lillard to the team they already have.

Much like their fans, the Heat love the idea of Lillard playing alongside Jimmy Butler and big man Bam Adebayo.

But that sort of arrangement probably wouldn’t be possible because the Blazers would surely demand Adebayo – and others – in a potential trade.

This puts the Heat in a tricky spot: they still want Lillard but they don’t want to give up their entire team to get him.

Is Hardaway right: do the Heat no longer have a real chance at making this deal happen?

There are plenty of other teams willing to step up and entice Portland with their own offers.

But the Blazers will remain very demanding, and rightfully so.
