Long before he entered the NFL, DeVonta Smith was already drawing praise and compliments from some stars of the league.
Despite being a bit smaller, Smith was one of the most explosive and impactful wide receivers in Alabama Crimson Tide history, and he looked poised to become one of the next stars of the game.
He had a solid rookie year but kind of took a step back in the following campaign when the Philadelphia Eagles traded for A.J. Brown.
Now, however, NFL analyst Peter Srcharger believes that Smith is ready to take the reins of the offense back.
In the latest edition of Good Morning Football, Schrager predicted that this will be the year that Smith enters the top-tier in terms of wideouts, joining the conversation with Stefon Diggs, Davante Adams, Ja’Marr Chase, and even Justin Jefferson.
“I’m all in on @DeVontaSmith_6 this year. I think this is the year we start talking about DeVonta Smith in the same conversation as Chase, Diggs, Adams, and of course Jefferson.”

That’s a lot to say, especially considering he still has an elite teammate to share touches with, but it’s not that far-fetched to think, either.
With defenses focusing on Brown, Smith will have plenty of space to wreak havoc downfield with his route-running skills.
He’s a master at creating separation, has a solid offensive line, and Jalen Hurts just keeps getting better as a passer, so the table is set for him to have a breakout campaign.
The only knock on Smith at this level was his height and lack of muscle, but he’s proven to be more than capable of withstanding the toughness and physicality of the league, and he can beat almost every DB in man coverage.
