The Las Vegas Raiders made two significant decisions ahead of the 2023 season.
They not only decided to cut ties with Derek Carr, but they ended up signing Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year contract.
Garoppolo’s contract was said to be worth upwards of $72 million, giving him an average annual salary of $24 million.
However, a recent report will likely change all of that.
It was revealed that Garoppolo has been suspended from the NFL for using performance-enhancing drugs, and the Raiders are expected to release him.
While fans don’t necessarily know what this will mean for his contract moving forward, this cannot be good for him or his future in the league.
Despite the unknowns, Craig Carton recently said that Garoppolo “will be on a roster this upcoming season.”
“Jimmy Garoppolo will be on a roster this upcoming season. It will not be as a starting quarterback for any team he goes to. It’ll be as a veteran backup.”

He added, “It will not be as a starting quarterback for any team that he goes to. It’ll be as a veteran backup.”
Garoppolo’s standing in the NFL has varied throughout the years.
At times, he has looked like someone who could win a Super Bowl trophy, and at others, he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.
Regardless of how he has looked on the field, this recent report of his off-field issues might make it difficult for him to join a marquee roster.
It remains to be seen what team he will join, but at least in Carton’s eyes, he is confident that fans will see Garoppolo in the NFL next year.
Even though his play is spotty at times, he could be a veteran leader for a team in need of some support.
