The Dallas Mavericks made sure to keep Kyrie Irving locked in for the future.

They failed to make the playoffs with him and Luka Doncic on the court, but it’s hard to blame him after watching him put up the numbers he had.

And while he hasn’t exactly been the most easygoing or soothed guy off the court and has been tangled up in multiple controversies throughout the course of the past few years, that shouldn’t prevent people from acknowledging his abilities as a basketball player.

With that in mind, sports analyst Jason Timpf of “The Volume Sports” made a case for Irving being a top-20 player in today’s game.

“He’s arguably the most-skilled player in the league”

Per Timpf — who admittedly doesn’t agree with his off-court shenanigans — he’s arguably the most skilled player in the league.

He also pointed out the fact that he was one of just six players to average at least 27 points, five rebounds, and five assists last season, the other five being LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, and Kevin Durant.

He also had an impressive 63% true shooting percentage, and the Mavericks were 14 points better when he was on the court.

Irving may not be the most popular player in the league for obvious reasons, but there’s not a player out there who doesn’t tip his hat off to him in terms of pure skills.

Now, he’ll have to silence the critics by proving that he can win in the playoffs without LeBron James, and that’s more than enough motivation to thrive next season.
