The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of work to do this summer if the team intends to retain superstar LeBron James, keep Anthony Davis happy, and get the franchise back on track as a title contender in the Western Conference.
After getting beaten by the Denver Nuggets in the NBA playoffs for a second straight season, the Lakers immediately made a decision on the future of head coach Darvin Ham, as they chose to part ways with him after two years with the team.
Along with the coaching search getting underway, the team will need to figure out what to do this summer in terms of moves the team wants to make in order to get this team back to the level it’s accustomed to.
Although no major moves in the front office are expected outside of hiring a new head coach, Clinton Yates of ESPN suggests the team hire a new general manager and make a splash at head coach via UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio.
The #Lakers need to do two things to break some barriers:
– Hire a new GM / young person / mind in the future of what the mold of the NBA is
– Hire a coach who makes a splash (Becky Hammon?) @clintonyates via #USL on @ESPNRadio @ESPNLosAngeles pic.twitter.com/Ib3Dipo6M7

At this point, unless something drastic happens over the summer, the Lakers won’t be firing general manager Rob Pelinka and bringing in someone new as it seems team owner Jeanie Buss is content with him running the show.
As for the coaching search, it’s anyone’s guess what the team will do, but Becky Hammon has yet to be mentioned as a legitimate candidate, even though it would be interesting to see the Lakers make that move and break some ground in the history department.
