There have been so many amazing basketball players throughout the history of the NBA, so it’s tough to narrow down all the stars into just five.

But that is what analyst Jason Timpf did for The Volume when he listed his all-time starting five.

Timpf got even more specific than others and listed each player based on the prime years that impressed him the most.

Timpf chose 2022 Steph Curry for the point guard, Michael Jordan of 1993 for his shooting guard, 1985 Larry Bird as small forward, 2018 LeBron James as power forward, and 2001 Shaquille O’Neal as the center.

That’s quite the list and one that’s hard to argue against.

Most people will agree with all of these choices, although some may be a little surprised to see Timpf pick Curry from 2021-22.

While Curry ultimately won his fourth championship during that season, he experienced a few rough patches too.

But Timpf believes he had some amazing moments during the regular season and then took things to another level during the playoffs when he averaged 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.

Everyone on this list is an NBA icon and champion.

It’s hard to think of any other starting five that would be able to overpower this one.

This is the sort of exercise that every NBA fan does again and again, compiling their own list and thinking about how to make it better.

These are five of the most successful and well-known basketball players ever and Timpf had good reasons to pick all of them.

From Curry to James to Jordan, they all left their mark on the league and changed it forever.
