Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has his work cut out for him.

He has to navigate a competitive Western Conference, work with experienced veterans and promising rookies, and try to make a very vocal fanbase proud.

But the biggest obstacle for Redick during his first season as head coach will be his relationship with LeBron James, according to Harry Douglas.

On Friday’s “First Take,” Douglas said that Redick will be challenged to gain James’ trust and then keep it through the many ups and downs of the season.

Obviously, Redick and James are close right now, especially since they had a podcast together before the Lakers made their hiring.

But that could all change if this first season together doesn’t go smoothly.

Being a head coach is always hard but being the head coach of this Lakers team is going to push Redick to his limits.

The team has a ticking clock hanging over its head as James gets closer and closer to retirement.

The front office is desperate to win one more championship before they lose James, but they also want to lay the foundation for a strong future after him.

Douglas is thankful that Redick will be assisted by several experienced pros on the coaching staff.

This will give him a level of experience and expertise that will help.

But no matter the size and skill of his staff, all eyes will be on Redick, and every move he makes will be closely watched and criticized.

Hopefully, Redick and James can keep their friendship intact as they work together in a totally new way.
