After over two decades of legendary head coach Bill Belichick running the show, the New England Patriots are heading into a new era, with the team potentially taking a different approach to the NFL Draft.

Following another disappointing season for the Patriots, New England owns the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, which means they’ll be in an ideal position to draft a quarterback and move on from Mac Jones as their starter.

With Jones and Bailey Zappe clearly not the answer for the Patriots moving forward, New England needs to address the position and will likely have some great options when they’re officially on the clock on April 25.

According to Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston, the Patriots need to upgrade the quarterback position with a resilient player at that spot because Jones couldn’t cut it.

“The number one thing the New England Patriots need is a resilient quarterback because we just saw this movie for three years,” Curran said. “They thought they had one, he broke.”

With Caleb Williams almost certainly going to the Chicago Bears at No. 1 overall, the Patriots will likely have to settle for either Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina or Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels out of LSU.

It’ll be interesting to see which of these two quarterbacks is higher on the Patriots’ draft board and what the Washington Commanders decide to do at No. 2 because they’ll more than likely be drafting a quarterback as well, with Maye or Daniels in their crosshairs.
