Aaron Rodgers and rookie Jordan Travis aren’t the only quarterbacks who are apparently going to be making headlines for the New York Jets at OTAs or minicamps this offseason.
There is another QB who is worth watching out for that has begun generating some buzz out of the Jets’ rookie minicamp.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini has shed some light on quarterback Byron “Peewee” Jarrett, a Division II quarterback out of West Florida, who has displayed eye-opening arm strength that amazed some scouts with 70-yard passes in college.
Rich Cimini of ESPN highlighted a very interesting name to watch from #Jets rookie minicamp, QB Byron ‘Peewee’ Jarrett (@byron_jarrett):

Jarrett threw 65 touchdowns in two seasons at West Florida and has shown off his arm strength already at minicamp.
Jarrett also stands at an impressive 6’4″ and 240 pounds, so don’t be fooled by the “Peewee” nickname.
Peewee’s story is impressive, as he was a 0-star recruit out of high school with no Division I, II, or III offers after throwing for 5,000 yards in high school in Des Moines, Iowa.
After multiple surgeries and a rough journey through a community college that had him pondering his football career altogether and considering getting a job, he found his way to West Florida and put up gaudy numbers with both his arm and his legs.
That was enough to get him signed to the Jets as an undrafted free agent, and though it’s unlikely he’ll make the Jets’ 53-man roster, this is a start and a place for him to show that his big arm can translate to the next level.
Everyone loves an underdog story, and it’s tough to find a better underdog name than “Peewee.”
