The New England Patriots will do what the New England Patriots do.

Bill Belichick made yet another controversial and rather shocking decision, waiving both Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham to leave just one QB on the roster.

Obviously, this puts an end to all speculation about Mac Jones’ status with the team, but the fact that he has no backup is rather head-scratching.

However, NFL analyst Craig Carton believes this is right on point with Belichick’s ways.

Mac Jones is currently the only QB on the Patriots roster.

“This is Bill Belichick playing mind games, trying to build up his young QB. This is ta way to tell Mac, ‘You’re the guy. We believe in you so much we have no backup plan!'” — @craigcartonlive pic.twitter.com/m21T7puF8E

Carton states that this is just another edition of his never-ending mind games, as he’s trying to build Mac Jones up by letting him know that he’s the only guy they need at the position.

Then again, it’s not like the Patriots can’t bring Zappe, Cunningham, or anybody else back later in the season if need be.

Belichick spent months trying to get into Jones’ head by talking about a quarterback competition.

He could’ve used that time trying to uplift him instead, but his methods have proven to be effective in the past, so one should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Football is a contact sport, and quarterback is the most important position in the game, so there’s simply no way the Patriots will go the whole season with just one active QB on their roster.

It finally seems like there’s no doubt about Jones being their guy, at least for the foreseeable future.
