Most people are picking the Philadelphia Eagles to finish first in the NFC East this season.
It’s no wonder why, as they’re the defending conference champs and came very close to winning the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs in February.
If the Eagles don’t finish first in the division, the likeliest candidate seems to be the Dallas Cowboys, who have won 12 games in each of the last two seasons and have upgraded by adding wide receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
But analyst Kevin Wildes has a surprising pick to win the division — the Washington Commanders.

One would likely think that the Commanders have the worst chance of finishing first in the NFC East, but Wildes feels they’re a good enough defensive team to get the job done.
Last season, they started 1-4, but they raised some eyebrows by winning six of their next seven games and coming close to snagging the last wild-card playoff spot in the conference.
They have a very untested young quarterback in Sam Howell, who appeared in just one game as a rookie last year, and despite the presence of Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin, their passing offense was pretty weak.
The hope in Washington is that the team’s new regime will eventually result in a change of its fortunes on the field.
After being mired in controversy for years, Daniel Snyder recently sold the team to a group led by billionaire investor Josh Harris and basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
But it will take a lot more than magic for the Commanders to return to where they were in the 1980s and early 1990s when they won three Super Bowls.
