Many people are predicting stardom for Caleb Williams, the rookie quarterback for the Chicago Bears who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
But there are some who feel he will go beyond merely being a consistent candidate for the Pro Bowl each year.
Former NFL receiver James Jones said Williams will be in the MVP discussion this season — as a rookie — because of the “wild plays” he can make.
“When quarterbacks win MVPs … it’s the wild plays, and sometimes it’s not even the stats,” the FOX Sports analyst said on “Speak.” “I believe he’s gonna have the plays to wow you with his legs, with his arm.”

Williams made his NFL preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills and went 4-for-7 for 95 passing yards, and in his second outing he was 6-for-13 for 75 passing yards while scoring a rushing touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bears won both games handily, and Williams showed off his ability to make plays off-script.

His ability to ad-lib and make something out of nothing is believed to be his greatest strength, but it has made critics wonder how well he will do within the confines of an offensive structure.
The big thing Williams has going for him, other than his ability to make what Jones calls “wild plays,” is the skill players at wide receiver he has around him, including six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen, underrated D.J. Moore and potential-laden rookie Rome Odunze.
The Bears appear to have a shot at making the playoffs and could very well be this season’s Houston Texans, a team that overachieved by winning 10 games behind rookie QB C.J. Stroud last season.
If Chicago does win enough games, perhaps Williams will get some MVP consideration.
