Analyst Questions Anthony Davis’ Health After Signing Extension

Just a few days ago, Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers signed a contract extension to the tune of $186 million over three years.

That means he is going to make an average of $62 million per year, the richest annual contract extension in league history.

That hot takes about Davis’ new deal are flying, including on “First Take,” of course.

Damien Woody questioned the extension on that show, asking, “Is he going to be consistent enough on the court to earn that $62 million?”

This is something that many fans will understandably ask.

Woody said Davis is one of the best players in the league when he’s healthy, but he sadly isn’t healthy enough according to some fans.

In fact, he hasn’t played more than 70 games in any of the last five seasons.

However, he did win a championship in 2020 even though he missed some games in the run-up to that massive accomplishment.

Davis was a major part of the Lakers’ recent playoff run and averaged 22.6 points and a league-high 14.1 rebounds during the postseason.

It was clear that the Lakers were going to re-sign Davis, even with his injury history, after this last season.

There is no doubt that Davis wants to remain as healthy as possible and 2022-23 showed some promising changes to his typical physical condition.

If he can even slightly build upon the way that he felt throughout all last season, there is a chance that the Lakers could return to the playoffs and even possibly the Finals.

LA just put a sizable investment into Davis but they are sure it was the right choice.

Next season will be a good indicator of just how well they managed their money.
