The Dallas Cowboys have a ‘new’ running back.
Following weeks of rumors and speculation, their reunion with Ezekiel Elliott is a done deal, with the former top-10 pick heading back to the place he called home since he entered the league and until last season.
This is a nice move from an emotional perspective, and he was a beloved and respected member of the organization.
Nonetheless, when it comes to football, this doesn’t move the needle the slightest.
At least, that’s how NFL analyst Greg Cosell thinks right now.
In his recent appearance on The Ross Tucker podcast, he claimed that he just doesn’t think Elliott is good enough to be a starting running back right now, based on what he saw from him in his lone season with the New England Patriots and his final year in Arlington.
He stated that he just can’t imagine the Cowboys thinking Elliott is legitimately an RB1 to start the season, as decimated and unimpressive as their RB room seems to be.
“I don’t think he is good enough to be a starting RB based on last year or even his last year in Dallas…can’t imagine they go into the season thinking Zeke Elliott is their #1 RB,” Cosell said.

The Cowboys had plenty of opportunities to address their need for a new running back.
They didn’t make a run at D’Andre Swift, Josh Jacobs, Gus Edwards, Austin Ekeler, Saquon Barkley, or Derrick Henry, and then didn’t pursue Aaron Jones.
They could’ve also tried to trade for Joe Mixon.
Now, they’re bringing back the very same player they didn’t want to keep because of his diminished production, and he’s one year older.
That doesn’t bode well for a team that claimed to be going all-in in the offseason.
