The Portland Trail Blazers haven’t changed their stance on trading Damian Lillard.

Whoever wants him will have to meet their asking price, and they don’t seem to be interested in what the Miami Heat have to offer.

That’s not good asset management, according to NBA analyst Marc J. Spears.

In the latest edition of his podcast, Spears questioned the Blazers’ assessment of the Heat’s trade offer (via Dru_Star).

“Dame’s 33. [Portland’s] not going anywhere. If you could get Herro & Jaquez, & somebody was like “Well they got Simons”. So what. Add pieces. You can make other moves later. Are you convinced that everybody on that roster is better than Tyler Herro. He’s pretty good”@MarcJSpears pic.twitter.com/WMp6TvnGGR

He thinks the Blazers could get a very attractive haul by getting Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Tyler Herro.

Spears also believes the Blazers could swap those players or assets for others, as Lillard is 33 years old, and the team isn’t ready to compete at the highest level right now.

Truth be told, the Blazers don’t have to keep anything they get for Lillard, but they also don’t have an obligation to do right by him and just trade him to wherever he pleases.

He’s got four years left in his contract, and with the Blazers going through a rebuild anyway, they should be in no rush to get a deal done.

They could continue to play the waiting game until Lillard is so worn out and desperate to leave that he agrees to be traded somewhere else, assuming the Heat never gather enough assets to convince the Blazers to let him go.

Even so, his trade value might be getting lower, not higher, by the day.
