The Dallas Mavericks were forced back to the drawing board after dropping Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics.
Boston entered the series as the favorites and they showed why as they simply dominated Dallas on both sides of the basketball en route to a stress-free win.
The Mavericks have shown their resiliency and toughness during the 2024 NBA Playoffs, but the Celtics aren’t like the teams in the Western Conference as they’ve got stars and quality depth at every position plus more outside shooting and defensive talent.
Luka Doncic had a strong Finals debut in Game 1, but his co-star Kyrie Irving struggled against his former team.
The star guards have been the backbone of the Dallas offense throughout the postseason and the team needs both of them to be at their best to overcome the mighty Celtics.
Ahead of Game 2, Brian Geltzeiler revealed what sort of adjustments he’d like to see Dallas make via SiriusXM NBA Radio.
“Start running Luka and Kyrie in the same actions,” Geltzeiler said.
What adjustments can the #Mavericks make going into Game 2?

As has been the case for most of the playoffs, Doncic and Irving seem to be at their best taking turns dominating the basketball and Geltzeiler makes a good point that Dallas could be better about using them in the same plays and actions on the floor.
Geltzeiler also acknowledges that Dereck Lively should be used more in those same actions to create havoc and confusion for the Celtics’ defense.
Head coach Jason Kidd has been great with his game-to-game adjustments and it’ll be interesting to see how he solves Boston’s defensive gameplan.
