The Los Angeles Lakers were aggressive in their pursuit of UConn head coach Dan Hurley but it ultimately didn’t pan out for them.

But they aren’t done looking just because they didn’t have luck with Hurley and are moving on to other candidates, perhaps even other college coaches.

Jeff Goodman thinks GM Rob Pelinka would be wise to pursue Kansas coach Bill Self.

“Not sure he would do it, but I think he brings combo of high-level coaching an adaptable personality that could succeed in NBA,” Goodman wrote.

If I’m Rob Pelinka and going after another college coach, it would be Bill Self.

Self has had a lot of success coaching in college and has led Kansas to 17 Big 12 regular season championships.

He is an institution in college basketball and is considered a legend by many.

So, would he give all of that up to try coaching a Lakers team that needs a lot of work and comes with a ton of scrutiny and high expectations?

There are a number of reasons why he would likely say no.

Not only would it be a massive change to his lifestyle that would come with unwanted attention, but it would be clear that he wasn’t LA’s first choice.

Their fight for Hurley proves that they wanted him badly and anyone they choose now will be second-best.

This complicates things for the Lakers moving forward but they can’t stop now, especially with the draft right around the corner.

The Lakers want someone who can lead the team for many years because they are sick of losing coaches after just a couple of seasons.

At 61 years old, it’s unlikely that Self would want to give them as many years as they desire.

For a number of reasons, Self might not be the route the Lakers take.
