Many Boston Celtics fans were upset by the lack of Jayson Tatum during the Paris Olympics.

Head coach Steve Kerr chose to rarely call upon Tatum, which ruffled the feathers of his fans who felt he deserved so much more.

But according to Jason Timpf, Tatum’s absence on the court makes a lot of sense.

Speaking on The Volume, Timpf said that Tatum was going through a shooting slump during exhibition games and the start of the Olympics.

Therefore, he had to play more like a power forward or center, but Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis fit that role better.

Therefore, Tatum just didn’t work well in the rotation, which led to Kerr benching him.

“In 2028 he suddenly becomes a vitally important player”

Timpf believes Tatum will shake off the rust, start shooting better, and will be fine when the new season begins.

It’s also very likely that he will be back in 2028 and if he is shooting better, he could be a vital part of the team.

All NBA players go through rough patches when their shots don’t seem to land.

Unfortunately for Tatum, his happened to come at the start of the Olympics.

But there is no doubt that Tatum is a supremely gifted basketball player and will likely be looking good when 2024-25 starts in the fall.

Some people wonder how hurt he was by his lack of playing in Paris.

There are concerns that Tatum might boycott the Los Angeles games in 2028 because of how he was treated this time.

But it’s very likely that if Tatum is called upon by Team USA again, he will return and will probably play much better.
