The NFL market is fully overblown.
It’s set up for the next guy to always make more money, even though he may or may not be better than his predecessor.
We’ve seen Trevor Lawrence get a similar deal to Joe Burrow.
That might be the case with Tua Tagovailoa soon.
He’s next in line to get a big contract, even bigger than the ones other players got.
That would be a mistake, at least according to Craig Carton.
In the latest edition of The Carton Show, he claimed that as much as that’s what you have to do in today’s game if you want to have a franchise quarterback, Tagovailoa hasn’t proven himself.
Should Tua be among the NFL’s highest-paid QBs?
“He hasn’t won a playoff game. … At some point, you have to prove that you are THE guy. Tua hasn’t done that in a meaningful game. Nobody wants to make the mistake the Giants did with Daniel Jones.” — @craigcartonlive pic.twitter.com/1MzyXQLIqB

He believes that quarterbacks should rise to the occasion and win in the playoffs before getting those kinds of deals, and while Tagovailoa has gotten a pass because of the weather and injuries, he has yet to prove that he can lead the team.
That’s a valid point, but it’s not like the Dolphins can do a lot here.
That’s the state of things in the league right now, and that’s the financial commitment any team must make to their quarterbacks if they truly believe he’s their guy.
Of course, it can always end up backfiring, similar to what happened to the New York Giants with Daniel Jones.
But if the Dolphins truly believe in Tua, this is the cheapest he’s ever going to be.
