The Los Angeles Lakers are in the middle of their head coach search, which has gotten a lot of attention in sports media.
After having a few publicized front-runners for this job, nothing has materialized into a coach signing a deal with the team.
Dan Hurley, the current head coach for the UConn men’s basketball team, was offered the job recently.
However, he has reportedly turned the Lakers offer down, electing to go back to UConn.
While this decision has been criticized by many fans and analysts, Dan Le Batard presented an alternate viewpoint.
As he recently said on his show, “I found everything that just recently happened with Dan Hurley a little bit confusing… You’re gonna offer him less than Monty Williams?”

His co-host, Jon Weiner, followed this up with “They never really wanted him.”
Le Batard brought up Williams’ contract, who recently joined the Detroit Pistons as their new head coach.
Williams is reportedly making over $13 million per year, while Hurley’s contract offer was said to be around $11.5 million per year.
In Le Batard’s mind, this was an egregious difference in pay, especially considering the amount of money the Lakers have as an organization.
While he is seemingly blown away by the Lakers’ contract offer to Hurley, what’s done is done.
The Lakers are now back to the drawing board on their head coaching search, hoping to find someone to take over this role.
It will be interesting to see if they bump up their offer for another candidate, or if Hurley’s supposed offer will be their standard moving forward.
