Analyst Says 1-4 QB Is Having The Same Season As Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos square off tonight.

And while this should be a blowout, at least on paper, divisional games are usually closer than people think.

Still, oddsmakers have the home team favored by 10.5 points, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise when you take their 4-1 record into account.

The Broncos are 1-4 and would be 0-5 if it wasn’t for a late-game epic comeback vs. the Chicago Bears, a team that had lost 13 straight games to that day.

However, despite their dismal records and metrics, the two starting quarterbacks have had more similar years than people realize.

Craig Carton put together a side-by-side comp of Russell Wilson’s and Patrick Mahomes’ numbers this season without showing who was who, and Wilson’s numbers were actually slightly better.

“Russell Wilson is having as good a year with a bad franchise as Patrick Mahomes is having with a great franchise.”

Of course, we all know this is a team sport and the context also matters, but the numbers don’t lie.

Wilson was perhaps the most criticized player in the league last season — and rightfully so.

But he’s bounced back in a big way and has been back to his best under Sean Payton.

Ironically, the Broncos’ defense was their calling card last season, and it’s been their biggest flaw this year.

Allowing 70 points in one game was a testament to how poorly they’ve performed this season, and while they won’t concede that many points on a weekly basis, they haven’t done their quarterback any favors.

A loss tonight at Arrowhead Stadium would pretty much end their season, and it’ll be interesting to see how Wilson fares with the campaign on the line.
