Team USA is hard at work preparing for the Olympics.

Representing one’s country in the Olympics is considered one of the biggest honors an athlete can receive, as many implications come with being an Olympian.

There have been times when the Olympics have been imperative in the political landscape, and in other years, countries have competed for the pride of being the best at a particular sport or event.

The United States has made a name for itself in men’s basketball, as there have been many famous historical teams.

Notably, the “Dream Team” and the “Redeem Team” stick out in many fans’ memories, but there are several other teams that have made their mark on history.

While being selected for the Olympics is a big deal, and Team USA once again has a lot on the line, not every invitee has decided to stay the course.

Kawhi Leonard has recently rescinded his bid to partake in this year’s games, electing to sit out.

This forced the committee and the team’s coaches to name a replacement, giving Derrick White a shot to represent his country.

While this was a great career move for White, it could be the end of an era for Leonard, which Emmanuel Acho recently outlined in ‘Speak’ on FS1.

“Kawhi Leonard has ruined his basketball legacy,” Acho said, adding, “There was a period of time five years ago, where we were comparing Kawhi Leonard to Michael Jordan.”

Leonard was once viewed as one of the best basketball players in the league, but his injuries and sub-par play in recent years have called that into question.

With Acho’s questions in mind, it will be interesting to see what additional fallout Leonard will receive from this decision, and what will happen to him throughout the rest of his NBA career.
