During the NBA offseason, a lot of basketball fans who may not pay much attention to the Minnesota Timberwolves were able to get a look at what rising star Anthony Edwards could do on the basketball floor while he was representing the United States for Team USA at the FIBA World Cup.
Even though Team USA had a disappointing finish to the tournament, as they ended up in 4th place behind Germany, Serbia, and Canada, Edwards showed flashes of brilliance on the basketball floor when given the opportunity, as he seemed to be a player that was a step above his teammates in the talent department.
With Edwards turning a lot of heads over the summer with his play for Steve Kerr overseas, many have started to tune into Timberwolves games this season to see what this kid can do, and so far, he hasn’t disappointed.
Edwards is averaging a team-high 27.9 points and 5.3 assists per game this season while shooting 51% from the floor and ripping down 6.1 rebounds per contest.
He’s helped lead the Timberwolves to a record of 5-2 coming into Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, where he’ll likely try to put on a show against rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama.
With the young star getting close to superstar status in the NBA, some believe he could be the next Michael Jordan since he plays passionately on both ends of the floor, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon via NBACentral.
“Was talking to some scouts before last nights game, one of them said about Anthony Edwards that ‘he’s the next Michael Jordan’… He’s coming for Giannis crown as the best two-way superstar”

Putting Edwards in the same category as Jordan or believing he could get to that level is likely a bit presumptuous, but it does show how high people are on this 22-year-old.
It’ll be interesting to see if Edwards takes his game to the next level this season and what impact that will have on the Timberwolves and on the league.
