The Los Angeles Lakers will most likely keep LeBron James around.

Otherwise, they wouldn’t have hired his friend and business partner, JJ Redick, to be their next coach.

James is fully expected to opt out of the final year of his contract, but he can sign a two-year deal to get even more money to stay put in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, that might not translate into success on the court.

At least, that’s how Craig Carton feels.

In the latest edition of his show, the controversial pundit claimed that those who bought the narrative of James not having an input or a say in the Lakers’ coaching search were ‘suckers.’

“This team is not winning a lot of games and it’s not gonna win a lot of games for a long time,” Carton said.

He believes that Redick might turn out to be a very good NBA coach one day, but he just doesn’t see the Lakers winning a lot of games this season or in the foreseeable future.

That might be the harsh reality.

As good as LeBron James and Anthony Davis are together, the Lakers simply don’t have a better roster than most of the teams ahead of them in the standings last season.

Nikola Jokic, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic aren’t going anywhere.

James found out the hard way how difficult the Western Conference is, and his Lakers tenure has been mostly a failure, outside of that championship run in the bubble.

As much as the fans will hate this, that might be the last time James gets to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy, at least as an NBA player.
