Against all odds, the Kansas City Chiefs managed to do what no other team has done since the New England Patriots and that’s repeat as Super Bowl champions.

The Chiefs came from behind to beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in Super Bowl LVIII, cementing their status as a bonafide dynasty.

Patrick Mahomes took home his third Super Bowl MVP and ring and established himself as the clear-cut best player in the league.

However, it wasn’t his offensive exploits that led Kansas City to a win.

Rather, the defense stepped up in the second half to lock down the 49ers offense and give the Chiefs enough time and possessions to get back into the game.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is lauded as one of the best in the NFL today and David Carr highlighted his so-called superpower via NFL Total Access.

“Steve Spagunolo has a superpower, and it’s adaptability,” Carr said.

Spagnuolo’s in-game adjustments have saved the Chiefs on a few occasions and he saved his best for last as he changed up how he wanted to defend the 49ers in the second half.

Blessed with great defensive players in Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed, Spagnuolo was able to move his players around and put them in the best possible positions to make a play on the football.

With the NFL shifting to a more defense-first approach, it’s only a matter of time until Spagnuolo’s name gets brought up as a potential head coaching candidate.

Until then, though, he’ll be back in 2024 to hopefully lead Kansas City to another Super Bowl appearance.
