Analyst Says 1 NFL Player’s Holdout Is ‘A Big Deal’

The San Francisco 49ers are already dealing with a major contract situation with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who previously requested a trade from the team despite reporting to training camp.

Now, they are dealing with a new contract issue.

11-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams is now holding out of training camp in search of a new contract.

Fox Sports’s Craig Carton believes this is a massive situation out in the Bay Area.

“Nobody saw this coming. It wasn’t rumored. His agent didn’t reach out…It’s a big deal…You need Trent Williams,” Carton recently said on The Carton Show.

Williams is arguably the best offensive lineman in the entire sport.

The franchise cornerstone has started in 177 out of the 178 games that he has played in during his 13-year career.

Since coming over from Washington in 2020, he has proven himself to be one of the best overall players in the game.

He is just as important as the likes of George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Brock Purdy.

At 36 years of age and possibly on the back nine of his career, Williams may be trying to earn as much as he can before his play declines.

From a strategy perspective, this is a smart move by Williams and his camp because the front office already has their plate full with Aiyuk.

Now he is trying to put pressure on the organization by asking them to pay up for what he has brought to the team over the years.

It will be fascinating to see how GM John Lynch and Co. handle both of these situations as training camp continues.
