Monday’s marquee matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers wasn’t just a possible preview of the Super Bowl, but it was also a matchup between the NFL’s two MVP frontrunners — quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Brock Purdy.
Just about everyone felt that game would decide who would end up winning the MVP award.
While Jackson went 23 of 35 and threw two touchdown passes, it was a nightmare performance for Purdy, who had four interceptions and no touchdowns.
Emmanuel Acho said on FS1’s “Speak” what many are thinking: that the MVP award is now Jackson’s to lose.

Jackson has seemingly entered the MVP race out of nowhere over the last week or two, as prior to that, the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott was neck and neck with Purdy.
But Prescott’s best chance of winning the award ended when he had his own awful performance in a Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was also thought to have a shot, but an ankle injury put a damper on his chances of becoming the first player to ever reach 2,000 receiving yards in a single season.
Interestingly, many sportsbooks have Purdy’s teammate Christian McCaffrey as second in the MVP odds right now.
He had a strong game on Monday and has clocked in with 1,395 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns from scrimmage on the season while leading everyone in both categories.
Jackson’s numbers — 3,357 passing yards and 19 touchdown passes — may not be the gaudiest, but right now, his Ravens have the best record in the league, and thus, it is hard to argue with him being the MVP favorite.
