The Minnesota Vikings started this season 1-4, and after losing Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Za’Darius Smith during the offseason, it looked like they were doomed to a lost season.
They then won their next two games, including an impressive 22-17 upset of the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, and suddenly there was a glimmer of hope for them.
But this past Sunday, they were dealt a heavy dose of adversity when starting quarterback Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles, ending his season.
Minnesota acted quickly prior to the trade deadline by acquiring QB Josh Dobbs to fill in for Cousins for the rest of this season.
Per CBS Sports Network, Adam Schein says getting Dobbs was a “best-case scenario” for the team and that he will allow them to continue to compete for a playoff spot.
“This was the best case scenario under the worst possible circumstance for the the Minnesota Vikings, who can now still think about winning nine games and being in the conversation for the playoffs.”

Dobbs is no Cousins, who ended his 2023 campaign with 2,331 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns on a 69.5 percent completion rate in eight games.
He had been filling in for another injured star QB by the name of Kyler Murray for the Arizona Cardinals, and the Cardinals have gone just 1-7 with him under center this year.
But now, Dobbs will have Justin Jefferson (when he returns from a hamstring injury) and Jordan Addison to throw the football to, and they’re the type of weapons Dobbs has never had in four NFL seasons.
Now the question is what the Vikings will do with Cousins moving forward, given that he is 35 years of age and will be a free agent at the conclusion of this season.
