Shohei Ohtani has been a trailblazer for MLB as the first superstar pitcher/hitter in roughly 100 years and is surely going to be a pioneer for athletes trying not to be pigeonholed into one specific role in any sport.
After the first big day of college football on Thursday, one analyst said that one player is now the “Shohei Ohtani of college football.”
Former NFL linebacker Bart Scott had high praise for Colorado wide receiver/cornerback and said “He’s the Shohei Ohtani of college football…to me, he should be the No. 1 pick.”

Scott added that we’ve never seen anything like Hunter, praising him even further by saying “He plays the whole game, he doesn’t complain, he’s a 4.0 student…I’m thinking that the New England Patriots are going to have the No. 1 pick. I don’t know if I trade down for a team for a quarterback because I don’t want to miss out on a talent like this.”
Scott noted that while Hunter played both sides of the ball, it contributed to him getting hurt and acknowledged that the Heisman is his to lose if he can stay healthy.
Hunter exploded in Thursday night’s season-opening 31-26 victory over North Dakota State and posted seven catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns to go along with three tackles on defense.
He was the best player on the field all night and showed off some clearly-improved skills as a receiving threat.
Only three wide receivers have ever been selected first overall in the NFL Draft, and it’s unclear if Hunter will be able to play both sides of the ball as a pro, but hopefully, whichever team takes him will at least let him give it a shot.
