The San Francisco 49ers have always been one of the powerhouses of the game, but it’s been quite a while since they won the whole thing.
Notably, the fans are used to some great quarterback play for the most part, as they can brag about having the likes of Joe Montana and Steve Young leading the way for them in the past.
That’s why some might not be so thrilled to know that Brock Purdy, of all people, will be in charge of their fate on Sunday.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Damien Woody claimed that if Purdy goes on to win the Super Bowl, he’ll have one of the greatest stories in NFL history, even if he never plays another snap again (via Get Up).
“If Brock Purdy goes out there and wins the Super Bowl and doesn’t play another snap, it’s one of the best stories that we’ll have in the history of our league,” Woody said.

Woody explained that going from being Mr. Irrelevant to the starting quarterback on a Super Bowl-winning team is the kind of story you just don’t see, and he could be right.
The sole fact that Purdy has been able to become the team’s starter and lead them to this stage in his first full season as a starter and his second campaign as a pro is remarkable enough.
However, people continue to hold his draft stock against him, which is kind of ironic.
Most of the time, people would be rooting for the underdog and this kind of movie-like story, yet it seems like some just don’t want Purdy to find success.
Purdy has already gotten farther than most quarterbacks in NFL history, and he deserves plenty of praise for what he’s been able to accomplish, even if this were to be the end of the line for him.
