Analyst Says 1 QB Prospect Is A ‘Really Difficult Projection’

With about 24 hours to go before the 2024 NFL Draft gets underway in Detroit, Michigan, the speculation about the top quarterback prospects in this draft class continues to make headlines, as no one seems to know where Michael Penix Jr. out of the University of Washington will end up on Thursday.

One thing seems for sure at this point in time, Penix will not go ahead of or even near the top three prospects at quarterback in this draft, with some order of Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye is expected to in the first three picks on draft day.

No one seems to doubt Penix’s obvious talent and potential to be a star on the NFL level, but his injury issues over the years and the fact he is already 23 seem to have some teams in the league spooked about taking him in the first round.

However, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that he is the fourth quarterback taken on Thursday night, as the Las Vegas Raiders could take a chance on him as early as No. 13 overall.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, it has been “really difficult” to project Penix’s draft day position via The Volume.

“Some of those things that Michael Penix Jr. does not do compared to those guys does make him a really difficult projection.”

With some fireworks expected in the upcoming draft in terms of trades, Penix’s future hangs in the balance on Thursday night, as he could virtually land anywhere.

Right now, the expectation is that he could be off the board midway through the first round, but there’s a chance he could plummet down draft boards on draft day.
