The Washington Commanders had one of the more intriguing job openings of any in the NFL once the regular season came to an end recently, as the team has a new ownership group led by Josh Harris, who is determined to turn this franchise around and is willing to pull out all the stops to do it.
That said, Bill Belichick, formerly of the New England Patriots, seemed to be the ideal candidate for the job because he’d instantly change the team’s culture and help it get back on track.
However, it appears the team didn’t want to surrender complete control to Belichick.
With every other head coaching job being taken in the NFL, former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn decided to take the job in the nation’s capital, but that hasn’t exactly impressed Dan Patrick, who ripped the team for an “uninspiring hire” on his show.
“Dan Quinn is an uninspiring hire here,” Patrick said. “And you hire somebody because you want that coach to be your forever coach. This kind of feels like you’re on your third marriage, and you go, ‘I’m going to make this one work here.’”
“Dan Quinn is an uninspiring hire… this kind of feels like you’re on a 3rd marriage and you go ‘I’m going to make this one work’… Why do I want a defensive coordinator as my Head Coach when I’m going to draft a QB with the No. 2 pick in the draft.”

Initially, once Pete Carroll was relieved of his coaching duties with the Seattle Seahawks, Quinn was the favorite to take over, as it seemed inevitable that he would do so, but that never came to fruition.
It seems like Quinn was content with taking the head coaching gig with little interest in going back to the Cowboys, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be a game-changer for Washington.
