Last season, the Detroit Lions became one of the best teams in the NFL as they were able to put it together offensively with a solid mix of run and pass led by quarterback Jared Goff and the dynamic duo in the backfield of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Unfortunately for Detroit, head coach Dan Campbell was unable to get them over the finish line in the NFC Championship Game despite having a substantial lead over the San Francisco 49ers heading into the second half.
As a result of their issues on defense, the Lions made some changes on that side of the football in order to finish the job in 2024, which is also something the Philadelphia Eagles were able to do during this NFL offseason, making the NFC that much more competitive heading into the upcoming season.
Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network recently made an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” and talked about the significant changes both of those contenders made defensively in order to pursue a Super Bowl berth during the 2024 campaign.
“But I thought those two teams, those were glaring issues for them,” Jeremiah said. “And to go chase a Super Bowl, you can’t have that weak spot, and I think both those teams were pretty thoughtful and pretty intent on getting that accomplished, and I thought they both did.”

It’ll be interesting to see if one or both of these NFC heavyweights has improved that much more during the upcoming season, and whether it will be enough to beat out the stiff competition that includes the 49ers, Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.
