As the league awaits the contract situation in the Bay Area between the 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to be resolved in some way, whether that means a trade or a new extension from the team, analysts and a lot of other teams have been weighing Aiyuk’s value.

What kind of category is he in as a wide receiver?

Is he one of the elite pass-catchers in the game, or is he a step below that?

Determining how good of a player he is should determine how much a team is willing to pay him or trade for him.

NFL analyst Greg Cosell does not believe that Aiyuk is a top-tier receiver right now.

“If you went through…the top four or five wide receivers in the league, Aiyuk would not be in that category,” Cosell recently said on the Ross Tucker Podcast.

Cosell also noted that Aiyuk is “a perfect mix of talent and scheme where he is now.”

In a perfect world, the best situation for both Aiyuk and the Niners would be to keep the back-to-back 1,000-yard receiver in the fold because he functions very well in their system.

However, would he perform this way if he went to a rebuilding team such as the New England Patriots, or what about a team with multiple star receivers such as the Cleveland Browns?

He is a very talented receiver who has made a big impact in San Francisco but in Cosell’s opinion, it doesn’t feel as though he could make a Justin Jefferson or Tyreek Hill-type of impact on another team.

It will be interesting to see if any team views him strongly enough to pay him top-five wide receiver money.
