The New England Patriots are in a state of transition.
Bill Belichick is no longer the head coach after more than two decades of success.
It is now Jerod Mayo’s time to lead the franchise after being an inside linebackers coach for five seasons with the team.
Not only is Mayo taking over as head coach, but No. 3 overall draft pick Drake Maye is the presumed quarterback of the future.
One group that could struggle out of the gate is the cornerback position.
Boston sports radio analyst Andy Hart is someone who lacks faith in that group.
“I have faith in nobody beyond (Christian Gonzalez),” Hart recently told NBC Sports Boston.

As a rookie last season, Gonzalez played in just four games before getting injured. He recorded 17 total tackles, three passes defended and one interception.
Marcus Jones, who was a 2022 All-Pro as a return man, played in just two games in 2023, recording five total tackles and one forced fumble.
Shaun Wade finally broke in last year playing 14 games for the Pats, but he recorded just 23 tackles with just a single pass defended.
Marco Wilson is yet another cornerback on the roster who either didn’t play very much for the Pats last year or lacks production. He played one game for New England in 2023 and recorded one tackle. He does have experience with the Arizona Cardinals.
This Patriots position group is very weak, and it will be up to Mayo and Co. to straighten things out in Foxborough, where defense is usually a staple.
