Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tee Higgins made recent waves by finally signing his franchise tender.

His decision to sign came as a shock to many because he was currently holding out in the hopes of landing a major deal with the team.

Contract analyst Jason Fitzgerald recently appeared on the “Ross Tucker Podcast” to chat about why Higgins decided to sign the tender.

“I have no idea. Usually in those kind of spots, you would just hold out of all of training camp. They can’t find you…To sign it, that’s kind of surprising,” Fitzgerald said.

Higgins’ aforementioned holdout had been a pretty big deal since last season ended.

After being a very productive No. 2 wide receiver behind Ja’Marr Chase, Higgins felt like he should be fairly compensated for his play.

The former second-round draft pick recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2021 and 2022.

He started his career by recording over 3,000 yards in total over his first three seasons.

Without him on the field for this team, who is to say that they still make the Super Bowl in 2021?

The former Clemson Tiger and national champion has been the under-appreciated Robin to Chase’s Batman while playing in Cincinnati.

Chase is the one that has made the All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams and has stolen headlines because of his consistent play as one of the league’s best offensive players.

With Chase’s camp possibly looking for a major extension here soon too, Higgins may be the odd man out.

Perhaps deciding to sign the tender can allow him to get back in the building and prepare for possibly his final year with the team.
