Joel Embiid is, by all means, one of the best, most talented, and most impactful players in the NBA right now.
However, other than a regular-season MVP and some individual accolades, that hasn’t translated into success.
Embiid had the largest drop-off in points per game in the playoffs by a current MVP in NBA history, and he’s never gotten past the second round.
He’s constantly gasping for air or hurt in the playoffs, and a player as good as him and with so much talent around him should’ve gotten further, especially in the Eastern Conference.
That’s why Pat Costello has finally had it with him.
Talking on ESPN Radio’s UNSPORTSMANLIKE, he called Embiid out for all the excuses and things he’s said over the past couple of weeks, things like he would be the GOAT if it weren’t for injuries, that he could average 50 points per game without double teams or that he doesn’t have a Super Team like Jayson Tatum.

He even seemingly made up excuses for Team USA by stating that LeBron James and most of their stars were old.
Embiid isn’t to blame for getting hurt, but there have been reports about his questionable eating habits and conditioning, and that’s on him.
Also, everybody in the league has had to deal with plenty of adversity, and none of them gets a pass.
People criticize Jayson Tatum even despite being an NBA champion, and some still call out LeBron James and Kevin Durant, so they’re not going to make any concessions for someone who hasn’t made the NBA Finals yet.
