There are a few reasons why point guard Jalen Brunson is beloved by New York Knicks fans.
Yes, he is an All-Star that has this team in the running for a championship.
But also, he took less money on his contract extension that he signed this offseason to help the team out.
The contract extension goes for $156.5 million over four years.
Fox Sports’s Craig Carton really likes this move from the veteran.
“Jalen Brunson was smart…He can get another big contract in three or four years, and that contract would be for double…(The Knicks) have been very smart with how they’ve gotten these contracts done,” Carton recently said on The Carton Show.
“Jalen Brunson was smart. He can get another big contract in 3 or 4 years, and that would be for double. … And the Knicks have been smart — 3 of their starting 5 aren’t making $40M/yr.”

Brunson, being a point guard, is naturally unselfish.
The former national champion decided that he was already in a great spot financially and wanted to help out the team.
This deal is actually $113 million cheaper than the deal that he could’ve signed a year from now.
With Brunson taking less money, this gives the team even more flexibility now and in the future.
Not many NBA players and athletes have that same mentality.
Heading into next season, Brunson will be teaming up with a bunch of his old Villanova teammates in Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges.
They all became national champions together in college and are looking to become NBA champions now.
After coming off of their first 50-win season in over a decade, the Knicks, led by the 27-year-old Brunson, will be a team to watch.
