Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is a powerful man, and as such, he often likes to remind his employees about that.
That’s why a lot of people think that their somewhat shocking trade for Trey Lance was a power move by the controversial owner, who was looking to send a message right before the start of the season.
At least that’s how sports analyst Craig Carton feels, as he recently claimed on his show that Jones is looking to remind Mike McCarthy that this is his football team.
Per Carton, Jones made that decision unilaterally without talking to the coach, and that’s also a message to Dak Prescott about his job security.
“Jerry Jones did this deal. They didn’t tell Mike McCarthy. Dak didn’t know. That’s a message from Jerry that, ‘A. This is my football team. B. You’re not safe, Dak Prescott.’

Prescott has been struggling before the season, and the clips showing Trevon Diggs calling him names and getting into his face made it seem like his teammates don’t even respect him anymore.
Lance has had a tough start to his career, to say the least, but he’s 23 years old and will now get to start over in a new environment, which could be just what he needs to get his career on track.
Dak is injury-prone, doesn’t run the football often anymore, and has failed to make the most of the talent around him, and it feels like he’s the only piece holding them back from legit Super Bowl contention.
Now, he could either rise to the occasion, or crumble under the pressure of having his potential replacement waiting to get a chance to prove that he’s not a bust.
