The Los Angeles Lakers could be on the verge of getting very desperate.
After their failed attempt to land UConn’s Dan Hurley as their new head coach, the team is without someone to lead them in 2024-25 and beyond.
Most fans assumed they’d quickly move onto Plan B in their search for a head coach but Jovan Buha said that isn’t the case.
According to NBACentral, Buha claims there isn’t a Plan B.
Buha said, “In talking to different people today, there has not been a clear Plan B for the Lakers from this situation.”
He went on:
“I thought that this was likely going to just be a five-day interlude and the Lakers would go back to the JJ Redick well and try to circle back and mend fences and just go back and make him the front runner or the favorite or whatever term you want to use again and that would be the likely outcome. But in having conversations with people in and outside of the organization today it has been a mixed bag in terms of what is the Plan B.”

This is obviously not the news the Lakers fans wanted.
They wanted to hear that Jeanie Buss, Rob Pelinka, and the rest of the front office were swiftly moving onto other candidates, such as JJ Redick, James Borrego, and others.
But it sounds like they will need more time before they can push forward with any plan.
Why are the Lakers in this sort of position?
Did they have so much faith in their ability to land Hurley that they didn’t formulate any sort of backup plan?
If that is the case, it’s mismanagement that could cost them dearly in the months ahead.
The Lakers had big plans for their next head coach: they wanted someone who could lead the team with LeBron James but also lay the groundwork for future generations of talent in LA.
Now they are without a head coach and, apparently, any serious prospects.
They weren’t planning well and it’s thrown them into disarray.
