The Los Angeles Lakers might be in a bit of trouble right now.

Dan Hurley turned them down and decided to run it back at Connecticut.

They had reportedly made him an offer worth $70 million over six years, making him one of just six NBA coaches making $10+ million per season.

Nonetheless, former NFL star James Jones believes they were never truly serious about hiring him.

Talking on FOX’s Speak, Jones claimed that the Lakers could’ve either made him an offer he couldn’t resist and given him way more money than that.

He claimed that all coaches he had worked with wanted to be in control and run the show, and that might not be the case in Los Angeles, as Rob Pelinka and LeBron James would continue to have plenty of power, up to the point where they could even impose Bronny on him.

At the end of the day, factoring state taxes and cost of living, Hurley did turn down more money in the long run, but not that much on a day-to-day basis, all while staying in full control of the program he built.

The Lakers, on the other hand, are now pretty much stuck with no feasible candidates, and the job might not be as coveted as it once was.

Also, whoever they pick will be there knowing that he wasn’t their first choice.
